SK8FACE! (DOCUMENTARY)

SK8FACE | SKATEBOARD ART MOVIE | THE EVOLUTION OF SKATEBOARD ART
Where did skateboard graphics come from? How did they evolve? Meet the masters who changed the face of Art History and Skateboard Evolution. If you like grip tape, paint markers, pens, pencils, pools, curbs, ledges, concrete, plywood, power tools, sawdust, grinding, art, design, photography, music, film, video, xeroxes, silk screening, spray paint, urethane, sealed bearings, going fast, old school, new school, making stuff or skating stuff, you have arrived…
Here’s the pitch of that “very” ambitious documentary about Skateboard Artists & graphics, the movie is still in production as the guys behind the project are in possession of an amount of materials to choose from and cut. I don’t know how you can compact in a 90 minutes film so many things to talk about but as i can see they’re already on point and put the finishing touch. The Cast line-up is pretty impressive and the names speak by themselves : C.R. Stecyk, Wes Humpston, Neil Blender, Mark Gonzales, VCJ, Tony Hawk, Steve Rocco, Andy Howell, Natas Kaupas, Marc McKee, Sean Cliver, Paul Schmitt, Hosoi, Lance Mountain, John Lucero, Chris Miller, Jim Phillips…and so many more. Damm! they find VCJ and interviewed him, that guy is like “nowhere” on the net, no picts, no infos, nothing, just is amazing work he did for Powell-Peralta in the 80’s and some more rescent for Pocket Pistols. A true legend. For all Sk8 Graphics lovers, that film will be like the Sean Cliver bibles “Disposable I & II”. Even the dvd cover is done by Wes Humpston, you cant front!!!…But it’s enough talking this movie will be mad!…Just an extract from Marc McKee interview, the man behind the World industry Graphics: He did more than 600 GRAPHICS in his entire carreer!!!!!!!. Personnaly, i really cant wait

U.B. OVERLORDS II RETRO (BACK IN 2006)

Here’s a retrospective of our one & only real “global” U.B exhibition, with all team members, back in 2006 @ Alice Gallery in Bruxelles, Belgium. I have to admidt that we don’t choose a simple way for a 1st collective exhib; the idea of not showing any paints, prints or even instalations comes from the genious mind of Sozyone…No we’re showing you some Flags!! But let me explain you the concept, cause all is in the “concept” : We’re a group of artists who comes from differents cities and we will represent thoses cities with “armoiries”, each one of us got 3 flags designed and colored with our own grafic styles, all the flags were disposed in a sort of castle alley (all Bronze painted), at the end of the way there’s the “graal” consisted of a “UltraNini” of the U.B. Gang (like a panini stickers album with a 2xpages for all members). I know it’s kind of weird for people who expect “Graffiti” from us, being fronted to some flags!!! But we choose originality and i think we make it good! …So far in the concept all 3 flags will be a groupement of cities from one island and all islands formed the U.B World. It must be shown as a giant map with an imaginary place on the globe with thoses islands formed a U.B Sign, but that map was missing the day of the exhibition. Anyway the public seams to like the Flags even if they dont catch our concept, eheh! Maybe one day we can re-up that exhibition with more features and most importantly, more explainations!!!! -KoolFunc’88

KAPPA BMX

KAPPALOGO

One more time, something about “Vintage Shit”, you will probably think i’m kinda obsessed on some oldies and memorabilia, and i will answer you : Yes! and the reaon why, is nowadays we’re zoning in a strange period full of nostalgia and being a kid of the 80’s (meaning i was a kid in the 80’s), i’m totally surrounding by things i’ve seen in my childhood and today we can get a grip of those things more easily…Anyway the subjet here, is “BMX”, and i present you the brand KAPPA, created by a real Bmx fiend, the purpose of the brand is to build retro Frame/Fork/Pieces after old school designs of Hutch, Profile, CW, MCS…and more. Kappa makes great “made in USA” products in an old fashion way, it’s very limited, so a little bit expensive. The man behind the project is very dedicated and it’s not a “big” company. If you need a great base to built up a bike, here’s your chance to get something very exclusive. I’ve pick an emblematic model to show you : the CW Z Phase one. As i have heard, the original was kinda easily breakable, The KAPPA version is Strong as hell! Various Styles and sizes (20″, 24″, 26″) available on order at KAPPA. –KoolFunc’88

VANS SK8-HI (CA PACK) FALL 2009

Since i’m no longer a running shoes fiend (i’m maybe too old for the AM! hehe!) I’m feeling well wearing casual sneaks like when i was kid, but this time with mo’ money to blow in trivial objects. On my grown-up way to become  an “old-kid” i have definitly fall in the Vans vault! Those “500 francs” shoes we can’t afford in the late 80’s, are now everywhere and at a nor outrageous price than all the other sneaks available these days. So…Here’s a “pack” released fall 2009 called “CA” with amazing details, colors and nice materials. I’m diggin’ hard that pack!!

SOVIET SCI-FI ARCHITECTURE

I came across those picts last night and find em terrific!! one more time a Sci-fi inspired post, but you know i’m addicted to this. Photograph & press editor Frederic Chaubin has documenting during the 80’s, the Russian and western architecture (Estonia, Lithuania, Ukraine…) focussing on the “weird” kind. As i discover the photos, i now understand better why some people like Honet constantly go to those countries, USSR Retro Futurist architecture is mad crazzy!

B/W TRAINING (FUNC’88)

Some of the B/W Training Sketches i’ve done for StreetFiles a few month ago, it’s about 10-15 minutes outlines with ballpen only to keep the “hand” when i have really not the time to go out doing some real stuff on walls. If you do that everyday, sure you dont need sketches to make a wall anymore, all go naturaly from mind to hand. It’s cool to keep a good sharp line too. -KoolFunc’88

TONUS CASE#176

n601569093_1291621_8829

Here’s an interesting case, one of our member and founder of the U.B International Camp got stopped in his “Graffiti-Activities”. But let me explain what happens, it’s not so simple…Tonus176, cause it’s him the story is about got snatched by outer-space people in mid 2008, then as he cant really remember clearly the situation, he got told to stop painting “Graffitis”, aliens think he got too dangerous & advanced skillz for earth people. Anyway after meeting those “others”, he’ll never be the same anymore: stopped painting and creating some crazy things definitly not from our world. You can check out his duty work right here! We all hope at U.B Corp. that one day, he can trespass the alien warning and restart painting spraycan letters again. This is some of his old stuff before that incident…
